Ayers finds his groove

CINCINNATI, Ohio-Mike Brey has said repeatedly what a quality shooter Ryan Ayers is-on the practice floor.

Colin Falls has been trying to get Ayers to shoot more in games.

It wasn't like Ayers suddenly started launching the basketball as soon as he touched it Sunday in Cincinnati. He only shot four times in 30 minutes.

But it was what Ayers did with those four shots, as well as his overall play, that made him-a Columbus, Ohio native with family and friends all around him-the talk of the post-game conversation following Notre Dame's 76-64 victory over the Bearcats.

Ayers nailed all four shots, all of which came from three-point range, blocked a shot, had a rebound, and helped defend against a pesky Bearcats squad that seemed to forget most of the game that it was supposed to succumb to the Irish.

"Just getting the repetitions on the court during games definitely helped," said Ayers, the son of former Philadelphia 76ers and Ohio State head coach Randy Ayers, who was coaching in Columbus when Ryan was born.
