September 29, 2012Sunday's Philly v. NY All-City Classic showcase game at Ben Franklin High School will include several players being recruited by Temple coach Fran Dunphy and his staff, with the most notable being Vaux High School senior Rysheed Jordan.
Jordan, a 6-foot-4, 185-pound point guard, is rated by Rivals as the No. 26 overall prospect in the 2013 class. He will be joined on the Philly seniors team by Lower Merion High School swingman BJ Johnson, who recently trimmed his list of schools to a final four of Temple, Villanova, Syracuse and Rutgers.
Sunday's festivities start with the tip-off of the sophomores game at 1p.m., and the juniors and seniors will play their respective games after. Admission at Ben Franklin (500 N. Broad St.) for the event is $10.
Temple is also recruiting a trio of talented guards - Roman Catholic's Shep Garner, Neumann-Goretti's Ja'Quan Newton and Chester's Conrad Chambers - who will be playing in the juniors game. The 6-4 Garner is ranked 98th overall in the 2014 class by Rivals, while the 6-3 Newton checks in at No. 52 in the 2014 Rivals150.
Haverford School point guard Levan Alston, the son of the former Temple guard of the same name, will be on Philly's sophomore team, along with talented 6-6 Archbishop Carroll forward Derrick Jones, whose coach, Paul Romanczuk, played for Dunphy at Penn.
Former St. Bonaventure point guard Shandue McNeill and Charles Monroe are the co-founders of the event.
