P.J. Walker in the first start of his career, Temple wasn't good enough to overcome penalties, turnovers and a porous defense in a 38-20 loss at Cincinnati Friday night.Despite some flashes of promising play from freshman quarterback
With the loss, the Owls dropped to 0-6 for the first time since the 2006 season.
Walker, who came in last week for previous starter Connor Reilly, went 12 of 22 passing for 200 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. He also collected 47 rushing yards on nine carries, with 31 coming on one carry.
Temple actually took a 13-7 lead on a Zaire Williams 1-yard touchdown run with 2 minutes, 8 seconds left in the first quarter and was within reach at 21-20 in the second quarter after Walker hit former quarterback-turned-tight end Juice Granger on a 30-yard touchdown pass before the Bearcats (4-2, 1-1 American Athletic Conference) scored the last 17 points of the game.
The Owls' defense, once again, could not get off the field on third down. Cincinnati converted on 11 of 17 third-down chances, and Bearcats quarterback Brendon Kay shredded Temple to the tune of 31 of 37 passing for 270 yards and two touchdowns.
