GBK Recruiting Update: OL, Matt Donoghue

Rivals.com National Recruiting Analysis Mike Farrell called Offensive lineman Matt Donoghue a "hidden gem" and that typically fits well into the recruiting philosophy of the Black Knights of Army, who as a matter of practice, always look for those diamond in the rough ball players.

At the Rivals/VTO Sports New Jersey Elite 100, where the the 6-foot-5, 285 pounder participated, Farrell noted that the prospect out of Glen Mills (Pa.) Garnet Valley "held his own against a very talented defensive line group. As with most of the offensive linemen, he had some problems against the talented speed-rushers coming off the end, but he definitely showed his strength, hands and quick feet on inside moves."

"I just went to the Rivals/VTO in New Jersey," says Donoghue in his conversation with GoBlackKnights.com. "It went well and this was the first time that I have ever attended, so I really didn't know what to expect. But I went out there and did my best and I think it turned out pretty good.

"I'm going to keep doing one day camps with colleges and even going to the University of Maryland Showcase. Also I'm lifting and running everyday."

Although he has yet to pull down an offer, the Pennsylvania prospect was quick to point out to GBK that there some schools standout relative to how aggressive they are recruiting him.

"I've talked to Temple, Boston College, Duke, NC State in person (high school visits) and I've been up to Temple a couple of times for their their Junior Day and one of their spring practices," adds Donoghue, who lives only 30-40 minutes from the Owls campus. I talk to them (Temple) a lot ... almost daily it seems like."

In addition to the aforementioned schools, Donoghue indicated that Army and Bowling Green are also in the mix.

"I am getting lots of mail from Army, but I haven't talked to anyone yet," says Donoghue. "But I think they are coming to my school in a couple of weeks ... sometime in May, but nothing heavy from them right now."

"Bowling Green has been ... well, I've been on the phone with their coaching staff and basically told me that I'm exactly what they are looking for and they are also coming in to see me soon," acknowledges the big offensive lineman."

Donoghue said he is looking for the solid combination of academics and football, as well as location. "I would like a location where I could see my family, but I wouldn't have a problem going a little far away," he adds. "I'm pretty open."

GoBlackKnights.com will continue to follow Donoghue's recruiting throughout his senior campaign, so keep it right here.
