Recruiting Notebook: Official Visits Kickoff

Once the Christmas break is over, it will back to work the Army coaching staff as they will kick off 2013 with a huge official weekend.

Ahmad Bradshaw, QB
Nehemiah Brown, RB
Seth Combs, LB
Eli Dawson, DE
Danny Drummond,
Luke Fetla, DE
Patrick Joseph, OL
Andrew McLean, DE
Elijah Mitchell, DB
Scott Washle, LB

There will be a solid blend of committed players, a few who are leaning heavily towards Army and a couple of others who are still undecided ... although the staff hopes that changes in their favor during the course of the visit.

Brown, Fetla, Joseph, and McLean are solid commits to the Army Black Knights, while others like Washle, will probably pull the trigger during his visit or soon after. Then you have Combs, who like fellow linebacker recruit, Washle, would surprise many if he didn't give his pledge the Army coaching staff during or soon after his visit to West Point.

"I've been to the campus a bunch, because my brother (Nate) goes there right now," declares the 6-foot-0, 215 pound Combs. "But I am kind of looking for it to be more of my experience. I want to see how I'm feeling about it and if I can place myself in the college life there."

Although the prospect out of Louisville (Ky) has seen West Point (aka Army football) up close and personal, he indicated that he is anticipating the staff and school putting their best foot forward. "I have big expectations and I have no doubts that Army's going to have all the things that I'm looking for, so I'm just excited to get up there," said Combs.

"I've actually talked to a couple of recruits on Twitter, like Billy East the wide receiver. We've talked over Twitter and everything and he was talking about how he was thinking about trying to get up there (West Point). What it sounds like is that a bunch of the prospects are real excited to be up there ... I think it's going to be a real cool environment. It will be chance to get to see who the potential players we could be playing with as a team."

One player who would be a tremendous feather in Army's 2013 recruiting class hat is Bradshaw. The All-City dual threat quarterback out of Chicago has all the tools. If anything has scared off some college recruiters, it would be his 5'10". Needless to say, they must have spent little to no time watching the maturation of Russell Wilson during his tenure as the quarterback at Wisconsin and now with the Seattle Seahawks.

This could serve a tremendous recruiting weekend for the Black Knights' coaching staff, as the current group of Black Knight players, along with the corp of cadets return from their Christmas vacation break and step right into "Reorgy" (aka, Winter Reorganization Week).

Of course this will allow for each every prospect to not only hear from the coaching staff, West Point personnel, but the players themselves. And of course without question, you can rest assured that Brown, Fetla, Joseph, and McLean will be doing their share of recruiting as well.
