McManus named to Allstate AFCA Good Works Team

Temple senior Brandon McManus has been named to the 2012 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, a prestigious community service award that's given to just 11 Football Bowl Championship Subdivision players and 11 others from FCS, Divisions II and III and the NAIA.

McManus' award was presented to him Tuesday at the Owls' Edberg-Olson Hall football complex. The Hatfield, Pa., native and North Penn High School graduate is eighth nationally in field goals (2.0 per game) and eighth in punting average (46.22 yards per punt).

"You never expect to receive an award, because you don't do (community service) for an award," McManus said prior to the award presentation, "so being recognized for it is always great. The real honor is going and seeing people's faces when you bring them food and see how it brightens up their day, and it really gives you good morale and it's good for your soul."

McManus was honored prior to coach Steve Addazio's weekly press conference and joined by his parents, Dennis and Susan McManus. Past Temple recipients include Wayne Tribue (2011), Amara Kamara (2010), Alex Derenthal (2007), Yazid Jackson (2003) and Le Var Talley (2000).

McManus has spent considerable time volunteering at the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, the Ronald McDonald House and the Bethesda Project. You can listen to his remarks from the award presentation here:
