Profiles of this weekend's visitors - Part I

SOCIAL: Follow on Twitter | Friend on Facebook

It will be a busy weekend on campus for the Bulls as several key commits and prospects visit this weekend.

Here's a look at five who are already committed. Later we'll profile the six or so prospects visiting.

The commitments
Darius Whitty
6-foot-1 |185| First Coast (Jacksonville, Fla) | DB

The Buzz: Whitty is another verbal commit visiting USF on January 18th. Verbal may be the word to describe Whitty as of late. The Jacksonville native has been outspoken about his commitment to the Bulls, describing himself as a "Bulls for life." It seems safe to say that Whitty will be committing to play for Willie Taggart and USF, and may be in the mix to play as a true freshman. The three-star recruit, like Vontarius West, will get a chance to meet new defensive coaches Chuck Bresnahan and Ron Cooper on the visit. Whitty committed to play for USF after receiving offers from Georgia Southern, Kentucky, Middle Tennessee State, Mississippi and West Virginia.

Johnny Ward
5-foot-11 | 160 | Colquitt Co. (Moultrie, Ga.) | DB

The Buzz: The struggles of the USF secondary in 2012 have been well chronicled. Moultrie cornerback Johnny Ward could be a contributor in the secondary immediately. He made 49 tackles and had four interceptions in the regular season for the Packers. The two-star recruit committed to play for the Bulls in June, while Skip Holtz was the head coach, but has remained committed after the change in leadership. Ward's visit to USF is the only official visit the Colquitt County High School product is taking.

Robert Garcia

6-foot-4 | 252 | Jesuit(Tampa, Fla.) | DE

The Buzz: The Bulls host one of their few defensive end commits in Robby Garcia this weekend. The Jesuit product, another Skip Holtz recruit, committed to play for the Bulls in August. Garcia, who received nine offers, including USF, had 32 total tackles, 3.2 for loss and two sacks for Jesuit in 2012. Garcia remains 'firm', but is coming to the visit with 'an open mind'.

Zach Benjamin

6-foot-4 | 187| Tampa Catholic (Tampa, Fla.) | WR

Buzz: Benjamin is as good of a lock as they get for the Bulls. The three-star recruit has stuck to his commitment to USF and will make his official visit on Friday. Benjamin, who committed to the Bulls on October 17th, has not made any other official visits. The Tampa product chose USF over offers from eight other schools.

Mike White

6-foot-5 | 195 | University School (Davie, Fla.)| Pro-Style QB

The Buzz: White committed to USF two minutes after collecting his Class 3A FHSAA State Championship medallion. In that game, White rallied the Suns from a 17-0 first-half deficit to a 24-17 win. He was clutch when he had to be and showed it. Has a very strong arm and starts on the University School baseball team.

Cameron Ruff

6-foot-4 | 295 | Jesuit (Tampa, Fla.) | OL

The Buzz: Ruff has been a solid USF commitment since July. He's very quick for a big man and has good lateral movement. at 6-4, 295 - he's the prototypical tackle. A three-star Rivals.com rated athlete, he's also book-smart and a quiet leader according to his teammates. Ruff committed to USF under former coach Skip Holtz and has had a few conversations with the new staff, including Willie Taggart. He'll be joined by Jesuit teammate Robert Garcia - also visiting this weekend.

Dominique Threatt
6-foot-2 | 294 | Tri-Cities (East Point, Ga.) | DT

The Buzz: Threatt - like Ruff - committed to USF under the previous coaching staff. He's a three-star two-way player, seeing time at both defensive tackle and offensive line. He has excellent quickness to go with a big base that allows him to win most one-on-one battles. With the new addition of coach Eric Mathies - this is a great chance for Threatt to get to know the entire staff and see where he fits in under Chuck Bresnahan's scheme.
